Purifiers & Allergy Control

What Is an Air Purifier?

An air purifier removes contaminants from the air in your home. It will remove organic and inorganic particles such as dirt, dust, pollen, mold spores, pet dander etc.

They are generally beneficial in properties which are situated in an area that has a high level of local pollution (in a city or when an industrial area is nearby) or for allergy control. For allergy sufferers, air purifiers can remove many irritants from the air.

There are a number of different types of air purifiers:

  1. The ionizer works by making pollutants heavy so they drop to the floor and can be removed by vacuuming.
  2. The HEPA filter sucks in dirty air and traps the majority of particles in the filter, then disperses the cleaner air back into the room.
  3. An activated carbon filter is mainly used for removing smells from the air. It is often used in conjunction with a HEPA filter to remove particles from the air too.
  4. An antibacterial filter removes bacteria from the air but, like the carbon filter, they don’t remove any other particles and so are often used in conjunction with another filter.

Benefits of an Air Purifier

A benefit of air purifiers for allergies is that by removing pollutants from the air they can help alleviate symptoms. If you suffer from breathing problems, such as asthma, they can reduce the number of attacks or flare-ups.

Air quality in the home can be greatly improved – toxins and pollutants can be removed by a high-quality air purifier.

It is not only air coming from outside your home which contains pollutants, toxins and chemicals can be released into the air by household cleaners and air fresheners.

The smell of smoke or cooking smells can be removed if you use the appropriate air filter.

How to Choose an Air Purifier

To a certain extent, you get what you pay for.

Decide what you want your air purifier to achieve. Air purification can take many forms, by removing dust, germs, or smells. The more you want your air purifier to do, the more expensive it is likely to be.

If you live in an area will high levels of local pollution – such as an urbanized area or near industrial areas – or you suffer from allergies and other breathing problems you will benefit from an air purifier in your home.
